What is the ideal form of self-directed learning aimed at psychological methods and tools?

Complete individualized instruction with psychology methods and EdTech tools

I used to teach at a major cram school, so I was confident because of my track record and experience, such as continuing to rank first in the student academic ability category. However, I felt that the curriculum there was all about studying for entrance exams and exams, and I began to think that I wanted a more humane education.

What is the ideal form of self-directed learning aimed at psychological methods and tools?

I wanted to learn things that are truly useful in life, such as learning methods that will be useful for a lifetime, learning that will make children want to learn on their own, and learning that will stimulate them. That's why we founded the company five years ago and created Endura Study.

One of the characteristics of the cram school is that it specializes in individual instruction. offer. As a method, we adopt a method based on practical psychology called "NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)". Among them, the most important are “utilization of the five senses” and “emphasis on language”.

“Even if you have the same experience, everyone has a different impression.” ” is captured. The information that comes in from the five senses is different. In other words, we believe that stimulating the five senses that students learn well will increase their motivation and interest in learning.

How can I determine which of my students' senses is dominant?

There are various methods, and it is not possible to generalize, but "observing the eyes" is one of the methods. In this way, it is possible to roughly grasp which sense is superior among visual, auditory, and bodily senses. Visually dominant students prefer learning methods that provide many visual stimuli, such as: B. Post a lot on message boards and use videos like YouTube. In addition, for students with good hearing, we try to provide detailed explanations in spoken language, and introduce methods such as learning while listening to audio.

In group learning so far, I think that children who are good at "seeing" things like writing on the blackboard or textbooks and "writing" things like tests have had an advantage. And even if we knew how to properly teach auditory and sensory dominant students, there would be too many people to teach at the same time, and it would be a considerable hurdle to provide appropriate learning to all students. It's like having a private tutor for each student.

However, with the evolution of technology, various tools have appeared as his EdTech, and it has become possible to flexibly realize individualized responses that were not possible before. If you find EdTech tools to be effective in your tutoring, there is no reason not to use them. Full use of EdTech tools for self-study.

I will try everything. I often use video apps such as YouTube, which I introduced earlier. The content is also very substantial, and the one I use as a dictionary is "Manabi Aid". Each student has an account so they can watch as much as they like. What I noticed when I actually used it was that "the lesson content is the same" regardless of the method, whether it's a group lesson, one-on-one, or a video. In other words, it's not about how you teach, it's about whether you understand. It would be nice if the video made it clear, but if not, the teacher should tailor the explanation to the student, check the question and follow up. I think it's important to spend time there in private lessons.

True teaching requires more preparation than anything else, and is subject to great restrictions such as place and time. Also, when the lecture lasted 80 minutes, I was spending 20 minutes or more at the blackboard. Also, no matter how enthusiastic and wonderful the lecture is, if the students are not motivated, they will not listen to it. In that case, chat with them for a bit and let me know when the acceptance system is in place.

And "Drop Flip" was effective for students who value experience. It's like a moving ball game, but by actually moving your hands, it stimulates your ability to see space and connect abstract information. Even visually-oriented students can greatly improve comprehension by adding movement.

It will be an important training style in the future to create hypotheses for things that have no answers and solve them while moving your hands. I think it's a fascinating tool that allows you to capture the physical image of a parabola and learn while having fun. You can use it as a starting point if you don't feel motivated to study. I also use various games such as "Think!Think!". And "Momotaro Electric Railway".

Are these EdTech tools age-neutral?

The Endura Study was able to accommodate a wide range of students, from fourth year students to college students who wanted to participate. It can be said that it is unique to the one-on-one class. Therefore, these EdTech tools do not have a "this is for this lineage" limitation. It is important to identify each person's type and level of understanding, and think about what is effective. However, since national courses are grade-based, the appropriate teaching materials inevitably vary from year to year. Due to the large amount of material, we use EdTech tools to manage the material efficiently and make it easy to find.

In particular, all teaching materials, including videos, are registered in the unique system "EZlink" developed by Shomeijuku in Saitama Prefecture, and the list is organized by class and subject. At the individual instruction cram school, each student uses an iPad, and the necessary parts can be taken out and used by the students themselves.

Are there any of his EdTech tools that have been introduced but not popularized? I think that what kind of tool to choose is far from the worries of cram school.

I accept. For example, Study Plus is a good tool, but there was a clear difference between students who could use it and those who couldn't, depending on their motivation.

Of course, there are students who continue to enjoy using it because they are motivated by how much they have studied today. On the other hand, some students didn't want to use their smartphones because it was troublesome to enter them every time and they wanted to open their smartphones and play with them. If there are other ways to motivate students, I don't think all students need to be proficient with a particular tool.

Do you have the mind of a gorilla?

Gorilla Mind : Distraction in our world today has become more and more about the times and times in which people like Newton lived, so when you remember Newton's famous story about earthly gravity, you will find that Newton was sitting under a tree and without even having to think, it is certain that Newton's mind was busy with many things  This is evidence that he was in a state of thinking, and when the apple fell on his head, he did not eat it. 10 Random facts that may come in handy in life

Reading interesting facts is not only fun, but also useful.  These little bits of information don’t just take up valuable space in our heads—they develop critical thinking, impress others, or distract us from negative thoughts. 1.
